Planning and treatment delivery for fixed implant restoration
of the edentulous arch with graftless solutions
offering the benefits to a growing demographic in your practice
There is a large patient population that would like to replace their dentures with a fixed implant restoration. For the lower jaw, many otherwise healthy individuals have a constant compromise, perhaps due to extensive resorption after 30 years or more of denture use. Because this treatment is elective, they would like to avoid bone grafting procedures if possible.
There is also a segment of the population that is still destined to lose their teeth. Having had the ‘dental book’ provided for them, the best of periodontal, endodontic, and restorative dental care is not able to prevent the eventual tooth loss of these conscientious dental patients. They dread the thought of dentures denture and the aging implications that await them and thereby defer treatment.
Many practitioners routinely providing implant treatment for their patients for single tooth and short span bridge restorations have shied away from fixed restoration of either edentulous jaw. Despite patient desires for fixed restoration and a long history of documented success, dentists and dental technicians have been apt to recommend overdentures as a more easily achievable satisfactory result.
Breakthrough advances in 3-dimensional planning software, digital framework designs and research supporting immediate function of implants with fixed restorations have revolutionized this treatment concept. The objective of this program is to report advances in diagnostic, surgical and prosthetic approaches that allow treatment of the majority of patients with cleansable, phonetically correct, fixed restorations (as opposed to overdentures) without bone grafting procedures.
Learning outcomes
With information provided at this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Utilize appropriate pre-operative screening information to decide the type of
restoration appropriate based on subjective symptoms and objective findings
2. Prepare the patient for pre-operative CT scanning with a radiographic guide to
benefit the patient with the most diagnostic information possible
3. Understand the restorative, surgical and dental laboratory implications for full arch
solutions achievable without bone grafting procedures
4. Select a provisional restoration strategy when immediate loading of implants is
indicated
